Bryan Gomez, 18, of Newtown, was spotted Newtown Police at Danbury Court on Thursday where he was appearing in court for an unrelated charge and placed him under arrest for an active arrest warrant, said the Newtown Police.
The warrant stemmed from an incident in October where a stolen Volkswagen Jetta was abandoned on Bancroft Road near the intersection with Pole Bridge Road after getting into a collision on the highway, police said.
The incident triggered a “Code Red” alert and a search of the residential area by police and police K9s after the driver fled the scene.
Gomez, who is accused of being the driver of the vehicle, was charged with larceny and held at Danbury Court on $5,000 bond.
Gomez is currently facing charges from other stolen vehicles in the area.
